A year and a half ago, Kevin’s healing journey with Camillus House began with a note to self – “I desperately need to change because I’ve been too sick to function”. In his own words, during that phase of his life, he was feeling “powerlessly” addicted to substance use. At IDEA Exchange Florida, a doctor recommended him to Camillus House.
At Camillus, Kevin found a safe and trusted refuge in our DCF and CARF accredited mental health and addiction treatment programming. Institute of Success and Personal Achievement (ISPA) treatment program helps homeless individuals struggling with addiction and mental illnesses including PTSD, bipolar disorder, depression, paranoia, and anxiety disorder. Sponsored by Thriving Mind South Florida, ISPA provides participants a personalized and tailored combination of self-help philosophies, individual and group therapy, work training, and social activities that helps clients like Kevin get their lives back on track and inspire others to transform into a journey of healing and self-sufficiency.
“My life is restored and recreated, thanks to the incredible team at Camillus, whom I can call family. I know I am not obligated but I want to help. I want to become a good sponsor, a good friend, a good son, a good brother and so much more.” Kevin emphasizes that he wants his story to be that of rebirth and change and perceived to be seen as someone who has been blessed with this gift that can be trickled down further to help those in need.
From being someone powerlessly addicted to substance use to becoming a Peer support specialist, this is a story of radical transformation. Peer support specialists help counsel or assist others with similar conditions.
In his own words – his is a story of rebirth and recreation with the belief that he is now on an anointed path to help others like him.
