Funds provide support to Housing Veterans, the shelter’s nationally recognized housing and treatment program to help adult veterans recovering from trauma and homelessness.
Camillus House was awarded a $15,000 grant from the Disabled Veterans National Foundation (DVNF) to support Housing Veterans. As part of the grant, Camillus House and DVNF will work with people who served our country to cover the costs of moving into independent housing, including household items or rental costs through vouchers critical for successful reintegration into local communities. From furniture, linens, towels, utensils, and startup cleaning supplies to first, last, and deposit, the grant empowers dignified housing.

The Housing Veterans program helps individuals who served anywhere from active combat in Iraq and Afghanistan to deployments conducting military business throughout the entire globe. Formerly homeless, the program helps them to get back into a dignified and autonomous life.
This program enables veterans to save much-needed funds for future expenses, including independent, furnished housing. Veterans also have continued access to Camillus House and our community partners in health, education, and career development at University of Miami, Florida International University, Miami Dade College, and CareerSource South Florida. Together we see to it that not only are important gains and strides made conserved, but also that growth continues to replicate upon growth for further positive life choices and living opportunities.

Integrated as part of existing Veterans programs onsite, the Housing Veterans project tends to an unmet need, providing the missing link in helping Veterans fully transition to civilian life and self-reliance.
